Jiangbei district, one of the nine main urban areas in Chongqing, is located in the north bank of the Yangtze River and Jialing River, and the rivers border the city for about 30 kilometers. It is expected to become the city's information, financial, cultural and artistic center as well as an embassy district and transportation hub.

Tieshanping Forest Park is one of the major natural parks in the suburbs of Chongqing in the east of the city, and the highest peak reaches 584 meters. Hong'en Forest Park, located in Jiangbei District, was listed as one of the major urban parks in 2000 in the General Plan for Chongqing approved by the State Council, and it aims to become a national garden park of Chongqing. Hong'en is the city's largest "open" park with a large area of grassland, and it is also the biggest urban ecologic park in Chongqing?- combining facilities for cultural and sports activities, and focuses on nature and ecology, in a pleasant and relaxing environment. The park is located on the north bank of Jialing River in Jiangbei District, Chongqing.

The district has a typical Sichuan Basin tropical monsoon climate. It is warm and rainy with four distinct seasons?- and it is suitable for tourism all year round.

History and Culture

Jiangbei dates back to the Zhou Dynasty (c.11century-26BC) and was a part of Ba country, a ancient country in Southeast China. After that, it was under the administration of Jiangzhou, Ba prefecture and later of Zhi county, Ba prefecture during 346 AD-561AD. It became a part of Ba county in 561 AD. It was called Jiangbei town of Ba county in the Ming Dynasty. During the Qing Dynasty(1644-1911), around 1745, it became known as Jiangbei district.
