Known as the Qinzuo Canal in ancient times, the Ling Canal was completed in 214 BC as ordered by the First Emperor of Qin who wanted to conquer the area south of the Five Ridges as soon as possible. It has a history of 2,228 years. It connects the Xiang River and the Li River, thus linking the water system of the Yangtze River and that of the Pearl River. The Great Wall in North China and the Ling Canal in South China are both wonders of the world. It is so wonderfully designed, so skillfully constructed, and so technically advanced that it is known as “the shining pearl of ancient water conservancy projects in the world.”

?The Canal, together with the Dujiangyan Irrigation System in Sichuan and the Zhengguo Canal in Shaanxi, are known as the three major water conservancy projects in the Qin Dynasty.It is one of the oldest canals in the world.
