China and US should push the bilateral treaty and seek new trade negotiation, said a report released by the Center for China and Globalization (CCG), a major Chinese think tank.

The report, compiled after a research tour to the US with both politics watchers and businessmen, offers recommendations on China-US cooperation in 12 aspects of infrastructure, trade, energy, space, investment, etc.

“During the just concluded 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Xi jinping has put forward it that China will promote a new form of international relations featuring mutual respect, fairness, justice and win-win cooperation with overall stability and balanced development. This applies to stable, balanced and win-win relationship between China and the United States,” said Wang Huiyao, director of CCG.

China and US should seek innovation in trade and seek new market, said Teng Jianqun, special invited senior research fellow at CCG.

Speaking about the upcoming visit of US President Donald Trump to China, Teng said that Mar-a-Lago meet of Xi and Trump has laid a stable foundation for China-US relations in areas of economy, trade, and cultural exchanges.

Looking at the future, Teng said that China-US relations have entered a new stage of normalcy: innovation should be achieved in trade, political competition will deepen, and both countries should strengthen cooperation in areas such as financial and security. The overall result of Trump's trip is to continue to stabilize China-US relations, Teng said.

Professor Lu Jinyong, CCG’s special invited senior research fellow, said he is optimistic for the future of China-US ties. He said small frictions and disputes are normal, but they won’t alter the bigger picture.

Looking ahead, Lu said that the two countries should respect each other’s core interests and global impact, to promote a shared honesty and harmonious communication.
