It totally depends on the type of past and the age of the child. If a mom was an exotic dancer to help put herself through college and she wants to tell her teenage daughter why not. If mom was a prostitute and she wants to share war stories with her seven-year-old no way. It is really up to the parent to decide if the child needs to know the information and if they are mature enough to process it correctly.
