In order to recruit more medical professionals from the United States, Shanxi reached 71 preliminary agreements with the US after a visit to the country by delegates from Shanxi medical organizations from Dec 12 to 13.
Among the 71 medical partnerships, 31 were signed on the spot at a medical conference held in Boston on Dec 13, including a clinical scholar training and research program between Shanxi Health and Family Planning Commission and Harvard Medical School Office of Global Education, as well as a basic research program on the early symptoms of pancreatic cancer between Shanxi Provincial People’s Hospital and Yale School of Medicine. Many Shanxi hospitals promoted themselves during the trip and sought partnerships.
During the medical tour, the Shanxi delegation visited MGH & BWH Center for Clinical Data Science in Boston, the first of its kind in the US, and discussed collaboration with staff at the center on healthcare and medical big data. The center focuses on clinical validation, application and promotion of intelligent medical achievements based on high quality clinical data collected over many years, with a focus on expertise in artificial intelligence and robotics.
The delegation also furthered communication with the state government of Massachusetts. Mark Sullivan, executive director of the Massachusetts Office of International Trade and Investment, praised the efforts of Shanxi as an inland Chinese province in introducing experts and professionals to the US and advancing opening up.
Shanxi has been inviting global medical experts to the province in response to greater local demand for high-level medical professionals and technologies. In November, the fifth China Global Health Conference was held in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi province, with the aim of attracting advanced technologies, equipment and international partnerships to Shanxi.
