Wang began his studies at Shanxi Agricultural University in 1981, majoring in agricultural sciences. After graduation in July 1985, he worked as an office clerk in Shanxi Seed Co.
Wang holds a master's degree in agriculture promotion. He joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in October 1984
