A delegation led by Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka visited a production line of Shanghai Volkswagen's Skoda cars in Anting town, Jiading district of Shanghai, where the international automobile city is located, on Nov 23.
Skoda Auto, an automobile manufacturer based in the Czech Republic expanded its business in China in 2007. It worked together with the Shanghai Volkswagen, a joint venture of Skoda's parent company Volkswagen Group and the Shanghai-based SAIC.
Automobile experts say that Skoda cars are now becoming increasingly popular among Chinese consumers. Company said that it sold over 280,000 cars in China in 2014, accounting for 25 percent of its global sales. In the first 10 months of 2015, it sold more than 220,000 cars, exceeding the number of the same period last year.
Skoda's CEO Bernhard Maier claimed that they have done impressive work in auto production and sales in China over the past few years. He added that the company will focus on developing the sports utility vehicles (SUV) later to cater to the Chinese consumers.
