Over 100 biological and pharmaceutical enterprises have been set up in Wuxi New District, including AstraZeneca, Nutricia and Bristol-Myers Squibb.
The district is growing up to be an influential cluster in aspects of biological pharmacy, medical equipment and diagnostic reagent. Meanwhile, it is devoted to integrating biological technology with modern agriculture and health industry, to improve public health.

The former Wuxi New District, now known as Wuxi Xinwu district or Wuxi National Hi-tech district, was founded in 1992 and underwent administrative changes in 1995, 2002 and 2005.
