5. Teresa Teng Singing Contest

This karaoke contest with a difference will be taking place in Pingtan in September. All the contestants will be singing the hits of Taiwan pop star Teresa Teng.

Known as one of the "Five Great Asian Divas" during the 1970s and 1980s, Teresa Teng, or Teng Lichun, was a popular and influential pop singer from Taiwan, who was known for her folk songs and romantic ballads such as When Will You Return? and The Moon Represents My Heart.

6. Pingtan International Kite Surfing Competition

The 2017 Pingtan International Kite Surfing Competition is set to be held in Pingtan during the second half of September.

One of the world's fastest growing water sports, kite surfing combines aspects of wakeboarding, windsurfing, surfing, paragliding and gymnastics into one extreme sport.

Time: Second half of September

Venue: Longwangtou Beach
