A total of 477 fishing boats in Pingtan county, Fujian province will be installed with the Beidou satellite navigation system (BDS) by the end of September to boost safety, authorities said on June 23, ptnet.cn reported.

The domestically-developed BDS is able to track boats and show their specific position, speed and courses, and transmit the data back to the control center in real time.
