1."Green Engine" The International Horticultural Exposition 2011 Xi'an highlights the "green, environmental protection, and low-carbon" living, advocates a green life and promote the concept of "Green Leads the Trend" to change people's lifestyle. The Guangyun Lake in the Chan-Ba Ecological District, Xi'an, the actual site of the International Horticultural Exposition 2011 Xi'an, was a dredging site in the 1980s. It was besieged by the polluted rivers, garbage, and potholes in the river’s course. Guided by the development strategy of “river management guiding regional development; new area development supporting ecological construction”. The Guangyun Lake has unfolded as a beautiful landscape with abundant water and green lands after years of ecological management and has been named as the site of the International Horticultural Exposition 2011 Xi'an. The Exposition reflects the concept of green and environmental protection in its planning and construction. It will display a charming culture amid picturesque gardens and showcase the results of ecological construction. In terms of exposition planning, the International Horticultural Exposition 2011 Xi'an will focus on displaying the latest technology, concepts and materials related to ecology, energy-saving and environmental protection to allow people to fully understand and experience the advanced concepts of ecology and environmental protection as well as their scientific and technological achievements. The Exposition advocates the concept of green life, thereby jointly creating an ecological civilization. 2."Made by Master" The Chang'an Tower, one of the four main buildings at the International Horticultural Exposition 2011 Xi'an was designed by Zhang Jinqiu, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The Greenhouse, Theme Pavilion and Guangyun Entrance were designed by Eva, the chief designer of Plasma and global leader of "Landscape Urbanism". The Exposition site landscape was designed by Mr. KOBAYASHI HARUTO, a chief horticultural master from Japan and the landscape designer for the Aichi Expo. In addition, masters such as Zhou Ganzhi and Han Ji all participated in the various stages of planning and design, reflecting the "Made by Master" characteristic. In order to guarantee a horticultural exhibition of the highest level, the International Horticultural Exposition 2011 Xi'an will showcase over 105 outdoor Gardens. In addition to gardens for participating cities, organizations and enterprises around the world, the Exposition will include nine Master Gardens and ten University Gardens including the works of nine world-class landscape and horticultural masters and professors of ten world-renowned horticultural universities from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, the United States, Britain, Germany, and the Netherlands. These leaders of landscape design have a wide range of experience, and famous works encompassing the latest trends in the world of landscape. They are pioneers, at the front of landscape design. 3. Dialogue between Ancient and Moderns Times The Guangyun Lake, the site of the International Horticultural Exposition 2011 Xi'an has a long history. It was a water transport dock of Chang'an during the Sui and Tang dynasties. The taxes and tributes of the whole country were transported to Chang'an City via the Guangyun Lake in the Chan-Ba Ecological District by vessels going up the Weihe River. During the Tianbao period (742-756AD) of the Tang dynasty, Emperor Xuanzong visited the Wang Chun Tower here to inspect the fleet. Huge crowds of people in Chang'an flooded to the Guangyun Lake for trade after hearing the news. The grand event attracted so many visitors that the Emperor Xuanzong named a lake under the Wang Chun Tower after the "Guangyun Lake" to commemorate the event. A nationwide water transport exposition with emphasis on displaying the local specialties of various regions became the first recorded exposition in history. Today, the Guangyun Lake in Chang'an, a thousand year after the first time, will usher in another grand event. Modern Xi'an and the Chang'an of the Tang Dynasty will converse again by way of the exposition. That is not a coincidence. The Tang Dynasty was the heyday of Chinese nation, and such a dialogue between ancient and modern times fully embodies the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. One may well say, "Grand events come in golden ages." 4. Match Made in Heaven The 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition is held from November of 2010 to April of 2011 while the International Horticultural Exposition 2011 Xi'an will open on the 28 of April, 2011. These two grand events in the horticultural industry will be held one after another, like a relay race uniting two cities on the both sides of the Taiwan Strait. At the same time, the Taipei Int'l Flora Expo is centered around the concepts of "Reaching the goals of reduce, reuse and recycle" and "Combining culture and art as parts of eco-friendly living"; concepts that are in line with the Xi'an Int'l Horticultural Expo 2011: "Eternal peace & harmony between nature & mankind, nurturing the future earth---a city for nature, co-existing in peace". The same concepts and pursuits show the two cities to be a perfect match. |
