Editor's note:

Last Sunday, June 26, marked the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Regional authorities carried out various programs to demonstrate their resolution to check rampant drug trafficking and drug abuse. According to official data there were about 1.34 million drug abusers registered in China in 2009. In recent years, drug trafficking in the country has involved special groups and become more violent and covert, posing a greater challenge to anti-drug trafficking efforts.
