Benchmark SCI ends 1.75% higher, led by tech, telecom and media stocks

Chinese mainland stocks gained the most in more than a week in Monday trading, as investor sentiment was boosted by the new securities chief's pledge for reform.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index soared as much as 2.8 percent during intraday trading. But an afternoon correction in banking stocks pared the morning gains, with the index closing at 2,859.5 points, up by 1.75 percent.
