A US-educated man diagnosed with depression was sentenced on Monday to 10 years in prison for murdering his father in Yangzhou Intermediate Court in Jiangsu province.

Wang Yong, 29, received a doctoral degree in the United States in 2012. Suffering from life and work pressure, he returned to his hometown of Yangzhou in January.

Wang soon discovered that many of his friends and old classmates had successful careers and owned houses and cars. He became frustrated with his life.

On Jan 29, Wang cut his parents' throats and bashed their heads with a brick. His mother survived the attack, but his father died of his injuries.

Wang tried to commit suicide but failed.

Wang was later diagnosed with depression.
