A 78-year-old woman in Lanzhou, capital of Gansu province, has been caring for her 101-year-old mother without complaint for more than six decades.

Gao Qingxia, a resident in Lanzhou's Chengguan district，is now known as "the filial daughter" in the Northwestern Chinese metropolis, according to Gansu Daily.

Gao moved to Lanzhou in 1953 and brought her mother with her, they have lived together ever since.

As Gao's mother grew older, her health deteriorated and she is now no longer able to look after herself. Everyday, Gao helps her mother dress, eat and go to the bathroom. She helps her mother brush her teeth, gives her a massage and washes her feet.

"But I never think of giving up looking after my mother," Gao told media.

Inspired by Gao's devotion, Gao's children and grandchildren also have a filial heart.

When Gao's mother falls ill, Gao's children and their spouses return home to help look after the centenarian. Gao's older daughter-in-law who is a nurse, helps her with her medical needs while the younger daughter-in-law helps her take a bath and washes her clothes.

Gao's children and grandchildren always return to Gao's home to see family when they have holidays.

Last year, Gao organized a grand banquet to help celebrate her mother's 100th birthday.

Gao said she hoped to set a good example for the young generations to respect and look after the elderly.
