The scale of the increase will depend on the harvest this autumn, Cao noted, as food stuffs are the main factors driving this year's price rise.

The Consumer Price Index, a barometer of inflation, grew 3.2 percent in the first half of the year, and 4.4 percent in the second quarter, the fastest growth in 34 months. Up to 78 percent of the 3.2 percent rise in the first six months came from food price increases.
