Macao's population sees rise in Q1

Updated: 2007-05-24 10:11 MACAO -- The resident
population of Macao totaled a record 520,000 at the end of the first quarter,
according to official statistics issued Wednesday.
The figures from the government-run Statistics and Census Service (SCS)
showed that some 992 live births were logged in the first quarter, a decrease of
14.3 percent over the fourth quarter of 2006.
Macao's annual rate of population growth in the past five years averaged 2.9
percent, according to official statistics released earlier this year.
