China will showcase its creative talent at the annual Beijing Design Week, which starts on Sept 23.

A major theme will be "Smart City", which is designed to encourage public discussion on urban planning, architecture design and future lifestyles.

The event will feature activities ranging from exhibitions of urban design and installation art to cultural seminars.

An international trade fair for the creative and design industry will also be held at Beijing Capital Airport's Tianzhu Free Trade Zone during Beijing Design Week, which ends on October 7.

Designed to facilitate cultural trade with favorable tax policies, the fair will serve as a platform for international traders, design firms and public visitors.

Since it was first launched in 2009, the event has achieved an accumulated trade turnover of 22.54 billion yuan ($3.65 billion), according to official data.

The event has also played an increasingly important role in promoting technological research and development, industrial integration and cultural innovation in the capital.
