3. She and Her Cat: 8.1

She and Her Cat is an independent 5-minute Japanese original video animation created in 1999. It is about the relationship between a male cat and his female owner from the cat's perspective.

The animation used a series of still images with very little motion. The entire movie is done in black and white with monochrome shading. Makoto Shinkai creates the background images by taking real pictures and editing them with computer graphics. Because of the popularity of the short video, it was adapted into a TV animation in 2016.
