Prague on high flooding alert

The Czech capital Prague was on high flood alert on Monday with businesses shut and transport coming to a halt after torrential rain left at least six people dead and forced thousands from their homes across central Europe. Czech rescue crews were searching for four others believed to have died in the flooding, which cut power to tens of thousands of households across the Czech Republic, Austria and Germany.

Clashes in Tripoli claim 4

Three men and a woman were killed in renewed clashes between Sunni and Alawite residents of the northern Lebanese town of Tripoli in less than 24 hours, a security source told AFP on Monday. "One civilian was killed and 21 were wounded in clashes late on Sunday between the Sunni-majority Bab el-Tabbaneh neighborhood and the Alawite area of Jabal Mohsen," the source said.

Woman injured in firebombing

Three firebombs exploded at different locations in central Athens on Monday morning, authorities said, with one wounding a woman as she emerged from her apartment. All three devices consisted of camping gas canisters, police said.

WikiLeaks source trial begins

The military trial of Bradley Manning, the US soldier accused of handing thousands of secret government files to WikiLeaks, began on Monday, more than three years after he was arrested in Iraq. The 25-year-old Manning went before a court martial presided over by Judge Denise Lind. He is accused of the biggest leak of classified information in US history.

Indonesia

Mine ordered to halt production

Indonesia has ordered production to be suspended at a giant US-owned gold and copper mine during an investigation into recent fatal accidents. PT Freeport Indonesia's Big Gossan underground training facility at its Grasberg mine in easternmost Papua province collapsed on May 14, killing 28 workers.
