BEIJING - A total of 6,601 people were punished for breaches of anti-bureaucracy rules in June, the Communist Party of China (CPC)'s discipline agency said Friday.

The violators were found to have been involved in 5,083 cases, the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) said in a statement.

Among them, 2,127 were punished by administrative and Party discipline agencies, according to the statement.

Breaches included violating workplace rules, using public funds for expensive recreational activities or overseas tours, being lazy and sluggish at work, hosting extravagant wedding banquets or funerals, and indiscreet use of public vehicles.

A total of 61,703 people involved in 47,150 cases had been dealt with by the end of June.

The "eight-point" anti-bureaucracy and formalism rules were introduced at a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Dec. 4, 2012. They require CPC officials to reduce pomp, ceremony, bureaucratic visits and meetings.

The CCDI requires the 31 provincial-level areas on the Chinese mainland, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and 60 central Party and government organs to report violations of anti-bureaucracy rules on a monthly basis, the statement said.
