A Pakistani defendant pleaded ignorance of China's laws when he faced a Shenzhen court on charges relating to producing products without a license, Shenzhen Evening News reported on Wednesday.

The defendant registered a company in Shenzhen in 2005 and from 2010 it produced an electronic point reading pen without approval from publishing authorities.

He also contacted a print company in Shenzhen to produce point-reading book sets and sold them in Shenzhen and Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, prosecutors said.

On June 24, 2012, police seized the illegal products.

Prosecutors found that the defendant had sold more than 100,000 sets of the products worth 16.88 million yuan ($2.75 million) from the end of 2010 until June 2012, to a single client. The print company had printed nearly 3 million books.

The defendant, named Saif, his Chinese partner Zhang Ning and the Shenzhen print company were all in the dock on Tuesday.

Zhang and the print company admitted the crimes.

The trial continues at Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court.
