Health authorities in Shenzhen in South China's Guangdong province have decided to revoke the license of a doctor for taking part in illegal surrogacy services, the Shenzhen Evening News reported on Wednesday.
Health inspection bureau officials raided an illegal surrogacy agency called Ande Yiyangtang in October. The bureau said on Tuesday that it decided to revoke the license of a doctor who took part in illegal surrogacy services.
The doctor, Zhang Xiulan, works in the reproductive health center at a public hospital. She was a student of Zhang Lizhu, a gynaecologist who led research ahead of the birth of China's first test tube baby in 1988.
Zhang Xiulan will have her license revoked if she does not file an application for an appeal or ask for a hearing.
Shenzhen police declined to say whether other doctors are taking part in this illegal service.
