-- Government officials should take the lead in learning from Lei Feng's spirits and set good examples for the nationwide campaign, to ease public concerns that while promoting the virtue of selflessness, some officials stay greedy and selfish.

A young Chinese soldier in the 1960s, Lei Feng was known for devoting almost all his spare time and money to selflessly helping the needy. He died from injuries sustained from being hit on the head by a pole while helping a fellow soldier direct a truck on Aug 15, 1962, at an age of 22.

The Communist Party of China recently launched a nationwide campaign of "Learning from Lei Feng" to promote virtues of the nation's most famous Good Samaritan.

Wang is the screenwriter of "The Days Without Lei Feng" in the 1990s, a Chinese feature film in memory of Lei Feng's spirits.

·Let more lawyers defend criminal cases

Following are some quotes from Yu Ning, a political advisor and president of All China Lawyers Association, at the annual session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee on Sunday:

-- Participating rate of lawyers in criminal cases is low in China, with no more than 30 percent of such cases being defended by lawyers.

-- China now has over 220,000 registered lawyers, but each lawyer on average handled less than three criminal cases in 2010, which is not in line with China's construction of a society ruled by laws.

-- The absence of lawyers in trials impairs the justice.

-- The Communist Party of China committees and governments of all levels should create a favorable environment for lawyers' practice.
