China addresses better protection of military facilities
(Xinhua)
Updated: 2009-05-17 18:04 BEIJING -- The Chinese government and military authorities jointly issued a circular Sunday to better deal with civilian/military development issues. The military and local governments must reserve areas around military bases to be free of development, said the document issued by the State Council, China's Cabinet, and the Central Military Commission. Local governments should consult the military about urban development plans that would affect military facilities, the circular said.
The two departments also asked local governments to stop civilian construction projects that harm military facilities and punish those who break the law. The circular promised that preferential policies would be issued for some regions, where major military facilities affected local economic growth. In China, a committee is usually founded to take in charge of military facilities maintenance. Both the army and local governments would send representatives to the committee. |
