We should strive for a common understanding among all members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and a success of the coming 17th National Congress of the CPC, says an editorial in People's Daily. An excerpt follows:
The speech made by President Hu Jintao at the CPC Central Committee's Party School on Monday has aroused resounding responses among the public. The speech embodied rich contents and profound thoughts. The speech set the important political, ideological and theoretical basis for the 17th National Congress of the CPC by analyzing the new situation and tasks of the country, expounding the basic requirements of implementing the scientific concept of development, and answering questions concerning the future development of the Party and the country.
President Hu stressed in the speech that we must take Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of Three Representatives as our guide, fully put into practice the scientific outlook on development, further emancipate the mind, implement the policy of reform and opening-up, promote social harmony and strive for the successful construction of an overall well-off society. To realize this vital requirement, we should firmly forge ahead on the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
To emancipate the mind is the basic requirement of the Party's ideological line and the magic weapon for us to cope with new situations and make breakthroughs. To implement the policy of opening-up and reform is the requirement of developing social productivity and vigorous institutional systems.
We should raise our consciousness in implementing the concept of scientific development. We should realize the unprecedented opportunities and challenges the country faces today and address the new contradictions in industrialization, urbanization, marketization and globalization.
We should have a deep understanding of the overall layout of the socialist cause with Chinese characteristics. We should promote the all-round development of economy, politics, culture and social construction, and enhance the construction of the Party. President Hu has put forward a series of new inferences and requirements, which set the direction of our work. The CPC Central Committee has always stressed to seek unity of thinking in the whole Party when there are strenuous missions, difficult tasks in key periods. Party members must carefully study and comprehend the spirit of President Hu's speech.
