Fishermen's village gets renovation in HK(China Daily)Updated: 2007-01-30 08:47 A 40-year-old fishermen's village in Hong Kong has received a much-needed renovation, thanks to a philanthropist and more than 100 volunteers. The Sam Mun Tsai Fishermen's Village in Tai Po, built 40 years ago, had many leaking ceilings and crumbling walls, but the villagers couldn't afford a large-scale repair. Learning their predicament, philanthropist Wilfred Ng donated HK$600,000 ($76,800). With the help of 55 construction worker trainees and 46 policemen, the repair was finished in about 75 days. At the ceremony marking the completion of the project, Ng said Hong Kong used to be a fishing village, and fishermen contributed greatly to the city.
