Environment: China likely to levy carbon tax

China is considering levying carbon tax to rein in the nation's greenhouse gas emission, said a researcher from the National Development and Reform Commission at a forum yesterday.

Jiang Kejun from Energy Research Institute under the NDRC said the plan will follow the US and EU moves in introducing financial tools to mitigate climate change. However, he did not give a timetable for imposing such a tax.
