Shanghai Composite Index cracks 2,900-point mark, 01/22

Updated: 2007-01-22 13:46 The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, a major index of Chinese shares, broke 2,900 points for the first time in history Monday morning.
The index, which covers both yuan-denominated A-shares and foreign currency-denominated B-shares, opened at 2,857.90 points in the morning session and cracked the 2,900-point mark at around 10:20 am.
