Domestic travel bookings hit a record high during the nine-day Spring Festival holiday that concluded on Monday, with attraction ticket bookings surging over 80 percent year-on-year and hotel bookings increasing by over 75 percent year-on-year, according to the online travel platform Fliggy.

Travelers booked more trips with a wider range of activities, and per capita tourism spending continued to climb. Fliggy data indicates that the per capita booking amount for domestic travel during the holiday rose by about 10 percent year-on-year, and the per capita number of stays at high-rated hotels reached nearly three nights. Orders for package products for popular theme parks and scenic spots covering both accommodation and activities surged by 140 percent year-on-year.

Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen in Guangdong province, Hangzhou in Zhejiang province, Chengdu in Sichuan province, Chongqing, Nanjing in Jiangsu province, Zhengzhou in Henan province, and Wuhan in Hubei province emerged as the top 10 domestic holiday destinations.

The use of artificial intelligence assistants to complete bookings for dining, flights and hotels, and to purchase movie tickets, was trending. During the holiday, the volume of AI-assisted bookings on Fliggy increased by more than 800 percent compared to before the holiday.

More international tourists chose to spend the Chinese New Year in China to experience traditional Chinese culture and the vibrant festive atmosphere.

During the Spring Festival holiday, inbound flight orders on Fliggy grew by nearly 10 times year-on-year. Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Beijing, Dalian in Liaoning province, Xi'an in Shaanxi province, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Fuzhou in Fujian province, and Ningbo in Zhejiang were the most preferred first-stop cities for inbound travel.
