The eighth China International Import Expo generated more than 6 billion online exposures, according to the CIIE 2025 Media Coverage and Influence Report released on Dec 19 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) during the opening of the CIIE U-Fair.

The report, jointly released by the China International Import Expo Bureau and Beijing People Online Network, analyzes the communication impact of the eighth CIIE using data, charts and professional analysis. More than 2.4 million pieces of information related to the expo circulated online.

Wu Zhengping, deputy director of the China International Import Expo Bureau, highlighted the CIIE's role as a platform for global engagement.

"The CIIE is China's calling card to the world, demonstrating our commitment to opening up," Wu said, stressing the importance of amplifying the expo's message to showcase the vast opportunities of the Chinese market.

Wu also emphasized the power of storytelling in conveying the expo's impact beyond trade figures.

He cited examples such as Peruvian alpaca dolls helping support families in the Andes, grass-fed milk from New Zealand becoming a staple in the Ningxia Hui autonomous region, and a German water treatment system providing cleaner water for children in Kashgar, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

"These are the most compelling ways to demonstrate the CIIE's impact," Wu said.

The eighth CIIE featured national exhibitions from 67 countries and regions, with about 280 booth activities. The enterprise exhibition covered 367,000 square meters, hosting 4,108 companies and debuting 461 new products, technologies, and services.

The Hongqiao International Economic Forum drew more than 400 guests and released 20 reports, indices, standards and initiatives. A total of 83 supporting activities were held, and the cultural exchange exhibition area exceeded 38,000 square meters.

Wu also called for greater collaboration to amplify the "CIIE voice".

Preparations for the ninth CIIE have already begun, and he said further improvements to communication mechanisms are expected to enhance the expo's global impact.
