A senior Chinese official has called on media outlets from China and Russia to further enhance cooperation and exchanges in order to support the steady growth of bilateral ties.

The remark was made on Tuesday by Li Shulei, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, during the sixth China-Russia Media Forum in Beijing.

Citing media collaboration as a key aspect of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era, Li said that in recent years, the media in the two countries have achieved fruitful results in areas such as content creation, platform cooperation and personnel exchanges.

He emphasized that the forum has become a vital mechanism for promoting bilateral media exchanges.

Li said that both nations boast profound histories and rich cultures, urging media outlets to make greater efforts in bridging the gap between the two peoples and promoting cultural exchanges.

The two-day event, which started on Monday, was titled "Building A New Future of Chinese-Russian Media Cooperation: Consensus and Actions". It brought together about 140 representatives from government departments and media organizations of the two countries, and 11 cooperation documents on deepening media collaboration were signed during the forum.

The forum's participants said the media of both countries should focus on major topics such as aligning China's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) with Russia's economic and social development strategy, and provide in-depth coverage of the outcomes of mutually beneficial cooperation across various fields.

They underscored that amid a new round of technological evolution and industrial transformation, it is imperative to deepen cooperation and leverage new technologies to boost the development of the media sector.

The previous edition of the forum, the fifth of its kind, was held on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum in Russia in 2019. The two countries have taken turns to host the event since 2015, when the forum was launched.
