A large-scale chamber work by young Chinese composer Wang Chenxu premiered at the Grand Hall of the Moscow Composers' Association on Oct 20, presenting a unique fusion of Eastern and Western musical traditions.

The performance offered a vivid interpretation of contemporary themes like mutual learning among civilizations and people-to-people connectivity. The seven pieces seamlessly wove together European classical music, Asian imagery, and mythological themes, using melody as a bridge to convey shared human emotions and foster a harmonious dialogue across civilizations.

The concert opened with "Swan in the Moonlight," which incorporated melodies from Tchaikovsky's classic "Swan Lake," gently guiding the audience into the composer's soundscape.  "Eight Scenes of the Silk Road" painted a vast, timeless picture of the ancient route through delicate and shifting timbres, showcasing a civilization where antiquity and modernity reflect each other.

"In this concert, the audience can hear familiar Russian classical melodies alongside the less familiar elements of Peking Opera," Wang said. "The pieces might evoke very everyday scenes, like a senior Beijing resident walking birds or playing cards in a park. We've also incorporated French and Spanish elements, breaking down the traditional East-West divide. Just as the Silk Road in my work serves as a midpoint connecting East and West, this concert aims to link and fuse these worlds through composition."

The concert was conducted by renowned Russian artist Igor Dronov and performed by the Moscow "New Music Studio" ensemble. "This work showcases the blend of Eastern and Western cultures, a fascinating field that always brings new discoveries and inspiration," Dronov said.

Galina, an audience member from Moscow, shared her appreciation: "This repertoire is very meaningful for modern society. Art has the power to liberate. The composer expressed his feelings through melody and transmitted that beauty. I believe everyone present was deeply moved. I truly loved the performance and look forward to hearing more works from Chinese composers."
