Marking the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration to China, Yang Yizhou, vice-chairman of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, told China Daily's Dialogues with Thinkers that the claim of an "undetermined status" is untenable. The 1943 Cairo Declaration mandated the return of Taiwan and the Penghu Islands to China; this position was reaffirmed in the 1945 Potsdam Proclamation, which Japan's Instrument of Surrender explicitly accepted. On Oct 25, 1945, the restoration of Taiwan to China was formally announced. The false claim of an "undetermined status of Taiwan" therefore challenges the outcomes of World War II and undermines the post-war international order.
