Power and public services are being rapidly restored in Hainan province after Typhoon Kajiki battered the island, as utility crews and volunteers accelerate recovery efforts. Major tourist attractions reopened just days after the storm swept through the island.

Typhoon Kajiki made landfall on Sunday night, toppling trees, blocking roads and cutting water and electricity supplies across Sanya and other southern areas of the island.

In the aftermath, members of the Communist Party, residents and even tourists joined cleanup efforts, clearing fallen trees and debris to restore normal life. The typhoon caused severe damage to Sanya's power system. As of 4:30 pm on Wednesday, Hainan Power Grid Co had restored 129 power lines, with 17 still awaiting repair. While more than 90 percent of affected users have had their electricity restored, repair work remains ongoing.

"We arrived in Sanya the night the typhoon hit and have been carrying out emergency repairs in Yazhou district ever since," said an electrician with the Haikou Power Supply Bureau's support team.

The bureau had deployed a 300-member task force with 77 emergency vehicles to Sanya in advance of the typhoon on Sunday to be ready to assess damage, clear roads and begin power restoration work.
