Hainan welcomes foreign tour guides to work in the province as their Chinese counterparts, as an increasing number of international tourists swarm the island, said the provincial tourism authorities.

In a significant move towards internationalizing its tourism industry, Hainan has implemented the policy for the recognition of foreign tour guide qualifications in the Hainan Free Trade Port since 2021. This initiative aims to integrate foreign tour guides into the vibrant tourism landscape of Hainan, enhancing the travel experience for international visitors with greater convenience and warmth.

According to the policy, foreign tour guides who have been employed by a company within the Hainan Free Trade Port and have obtained a foreign tour guide qualification can apply for the "Hainan Free Trade Port Foreign Personnel Skills Recognition Certificate." This certificate allows them to enjoy the same rights as local tour guides within specified service areas and timeframes.

An official from Hainan tourism authorities said that this policy enables foreign tour guides to fully utilize their professional skills in Hainan, offering high-quality services to tourists while also gaining excellent career development opportunities.

The introduction of the policy marks a crucial step in Hainan's efforts to promote the internationalization and professionalization of its tourism industry.

As the inbound tourism market in Hainan continues to heat up, the demand for foreign tour guides with international perspectives and professional expertise is becoming increasingly urgent.

In the first half of this year, Hainan received 652,900 overnight foreign visitors, marking a 31.7 percent year-on-year increase. This rising influx of international tourists underscores the growing need for skilled foreign tour guides, who are encouraged to apply for the certification and embark on a rewarding career journey in Hainan.
