A professional committee to guide the construction of a world-class "lake + green development zone" was established in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, on Tuesday.

The committee, made up 19 expert members and eight corporate members, is expected to pool expertise and resources to advance the construction of a world-class "lake+ green development zone" around Wanlyu Lake in Heyuan city.

Lin Keqing, chairman of Guangdong Provincial Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said promoting the construction of a world-class "lake+ green development zone" around Wanlyu Lake is based on Guangdong's unique ecological resource advantages.

"It will help promote the effective transformation of economic construction to green development in the province, a global production base. And it will also help promote the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area into demonstration area for a beautiful China," Lin said.

He urged the committee to leverage its high-end intellectual advantages, further deepen research and argumentation, to stimulate the "vitality of comprehensive development" of the project.

And the committee should give full play to the leading advantage of technology, promote the deep integration of ecological protection and technological innovation to build the project to become an important window to showcase China's green and high-quality development in the following months, he said.

Wanlyu Lake, which covers an area of 1,600 square kilometers, is about 200 kilometers away from Guangzhou and 180 kilometers from Shenzhen. As a major scenic spot in the province, it includes a forest area of over 1,100 square kilometers and a water area of 370 square kilometers.

It's also the drinking water source for Shenzhen, Dongguan and Hong Kong in the eastern part of the Pearl River delta.
