520 million trips expected during summer rail season
China's railway network will start its two-month summer season on Friday, during which an estimated 520 million passenger trips will be made, the national railway operator China State Railway Group said on Thursday.
The summer season will run through Aug 31. The network is expected to handle up to 10 million trips per day during the period.
The railway group has asked service providers to take advantage of newly opened lines and railway stations to offer high-quality services to passengers to meet their needs.
Besides passengers, the network will also focus on transporting major supplies to ensure unimpeded logistics. For the summer—the peak time for electricity use—the company has launched a tailored program to transport coal for power production.
Services that adhere to epidemic prevention and control measures, such as touch-free dining services, will also be offered.
