A Chinese mainland spokeswoman expressed strong dissatisfaction on Wednesday after Japan for the first time mentioned the importance of stability around Taiwan in its annual defense report.

Zhu Fenglian, a spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, urged Japan to correct mistakes and stop sending the wrong signals to "Taiwan independence" forces.

Japan's Ministry of Defense issued this year's Defense of Japan, the annual defense policy paper compiled by the ministry to outline Tokyo's views on military security in the region and the world.

The paper claimed that stabilizing the situation surrounding Taiwan is important for Japan's security and the stability of the international community.

Zhu said it violated the one-China principle, sent a wrong signal to "Taiwan independence" secessionist forces and had a negative impact on peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits.

There is a series of Taiwan-related mistakes in the document, which is a manifestation of irresponsibility, she said.

"Japan was in debt on the Taiwan question in history," Zhu said, who urged the country to reflect on history, immediately correct mistakes and take concrete measures to eliminate the adverse impact.

She also warned the authorities of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party in Taiwan and the "Taiwan independence" separatists that their efforts to collude with foreign forces will be doomed to failure.

"Rejecting unification with the mainland by force or seeking independence by force will lead to a dead end," she added.
