Three times as many Americans believe that security situation at the US-Mexico border under US President Joe Biden is worse than it was under former President Donald Trump two years ago, according to a Fox News survey released on Sunday.

Fox News surveyed around 1,000 registered voters between April 18 and 21. About 46 percent of the participants said border security is worse-off today compared to two years ago. The result stood in stark contrast with the same poll in 2018, when only 15 percent said security had become worse under Trump.

In the latest survey, around 38 percent said they "completely" believe that the increase in migrants trying to cross the border illegally is because Biden is president, while 39 percent indicated that Biden's presidency was "mostly" or "a little" to blame. Fifteen percent said that has played no role.

On the new president's inauguration last year, five immigration executive orders were issued, vowing for a more humane and welcoming immigration policy.

The Biden administration welcomed the first batch of over 25,000 asylum seekers on February 19 into US borders from Mexico. And now, his team is scrambling to take care of the biggest migrant surge in 20 years.

According to the Washington Post, as many as 2 million migrants are expected at the southern border this year.

In an ABC News interview in March, Biden slammed the saying that asylum seekers were rushing to the border because they had heard he was "a nice guy," and told them to stay home. "Yes, I can say quite clearly: Don't come over," he said. "Don't leave your town or city or community."

"It is the wrong decision at the wrong time," commented Thomas Falk, a London-based political analyst and commentator in a CGTN opinion piece.

"The undoubtedly most critical and controversial part is Biden's vision to grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. If passed, they would be given a path to citizenship. This would apply to – depending on the source – about 11 million who are currently residing in the US without valid papers."
