Migu Co Ltd, a subsidiary of China Mobile that provides digital content products and services, and China Museums Association have jointly kicked off a seven-day culture and creative festival, during which several renowned museums will offer online exhibitions through adopting superfast 5G-powered virtual reality technology.

Audiences who have been unable to visit the museums in person could experience fully immersive and virtual reality exhibitions via digital platforms, and a batch of experts from the National Museum of China, Nanjing Museum, Henan Museum, Shaanxi History Museum and Hubei Museum will also launch livestreamed broadcasts to give more detailed information about the museums.

China Mobile announced on Sunday that it has set up 124,000 5G base stations so far, with over 50 million users in 56 cities across the country.

In addition, Migu will boost the development and sales of derivative products related to the cultural and creative industry in cooperation with major museums across the nation and e-commerce platforms, such as Alibaba's Taobao, Pinduoduo and Suning. Key opinion leaders will also be invited to the livestreamed programs during the festival.

Migu aims to promote the growth of China's cultural and creative industry. It said the festival is not only an important practice for the integrated development of the cultural industry and 5G application, but also an exploration in innovating traditional Chinese culture.

The number of 5G base stations in use nationwide has exceeded 200,000, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said Sunday.
